Sutton Lake

Approximately 14 miles long, the lake is perfect for swimming, fishing and boating. With picnic areas and a sandy beach, Bee Run Beach is ideal for family fun. 

A clear, clean freshwater lake covering 1,440 acres with 44 miles of shoreline. Sutton Lake is an ideal location for those who love to fish and those with friends and family who desire a wide array of recreational activities.

Sutton Lake Marina is West Virginia's premier Houseboat, Pontoon Boat, Jet Ski, Kayak, and Paddle Board rental Headquarters. Located just three miles off I-79 at Flatwoods, Exit 67.

The Elk River Water Trail

 

Beginning at the tailwaters of the Sutton Dam and continuing 

through 3 counties: Braxton, Clay and Kanawha. The Water Trail has 12 Primary Access Locations and 5 Proposed Sites which are conveniently located close to Interstate 79 exits 1 through 62. 
 
WV’s Biological Treasure, The Elk River, often called “the best all-in-one river in West Virginia” is recognized among biologists for its exceptional diversity of fish as well as being home to rare invertebrates, including a crayfish found nowhere else in the world.

Flatwoods Monster Museum

Located on main street in downtown Sutton. Free admission. 

Displays include artifacts, historic items, memorabilia, books, and more. The museum also acts as the Braxton County Visitors Center, with area brochures and travel info to help with the rest of your stay and trip.

Featured in such programs as Small Town Monster's The Flatwoods Monster: a Legacy of Fear, America's Got Aliens (Hong Kong), Nerdist's Bizarre States, and the Unseen World.

Bulltown Civil War Historic Area

 

This spot occupies the site of a Civil War battle, where reenactments

of the historic event take place twice a year. Take a trip back in time at the Bulltown Historical Village to get a taste of life during the Civil War era. 

 

At the hilly site are Union trenches, the graves of seven Confederate soldiers and intact sections of the Weston-Gauley Turnpike.

Braxton County Jamboree

 

Showcases various live bluegrass, country, and gospel artists every Friday night as well as many specially scheduled events. Admission at the door is $4 per person, kids under 12 get in free.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. Food available, including hot dogs, chicken strips, corn dogs, taco salad, onion rings, and french fries. Soda, coffee, and water available as well.

Located only 10 miles from the Inn.
